Doodle Tune: Bread in the Bed – Music for Toddlers

You should know something about me right up front: I sometimes like to change things up a bit.

Yes, this is primarily a sewing and crafting blog (with some homeschooling and parenting flavor tossed in there) but every once in a while you’ll see one of my Doodletunes pop up. I can’t help it. I have such fun writing music for toddlers and babies. Both of my kids really seem to enjoy these tunes so I decided to share them occasionally for all of you who have little ones as well.

Little kids LOVE music. And most of them LOVE to be silly so this song has been a big hit with the kids who have heard it so far. I wrote it about two years ago and my daughter still requests to hear it when the “silly” mood strikes.

Let me set the scene for the birth of this tune:

It all started in a shore house at the Jersey Shore with a bunch of our extended family (there are many of us). My then two year old daughter attempted to hop up onto a futon bed with a piece of bread in her hand. I launched into “mom mode.” You know that mode, right? I immediately had a vision of crumbs everywhere. In my vision I saw Ants and other bugs partying hard in that futon overnight thanks to my two year old crumb factory. I told her she was not allowed to eat bread in the bed.

Hey that rhymed! My Dr. Suess loving child began to giggle. The silly rhyming took off from there with aunts (not ants, thankfully), uncles and cousins joining in to add their rhymes. I started writing them all down and put them to this little tune.

Here we are two years later and one day, just a few months ago, my daughter asked to hear this song. I played it for her and she said, “Mommy, is that you singing?” She had been listening to this song for TWO YEARS and had no idea it was me, even though I sing to her “live” constantly. Not sure what to think about that!

Let me know what you think of this song, y’all! I hope you and your kids enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing and singing it.

I have to give a shout out to Ana & Sorin Crisan, who I found over at to animate this little tune! I really appreciate their help and skills as I am definitely not an animator! You can check out their Youtube page at

I am ashamed to admit that this is the first time I have listened all the way through. How fun! Too bad my kiddles are in bed. They’ll have to wait until tomorrow to experience it, but I know they are going to love it :) And, no worries my bread is away from my bed, although with this rain dining with a toad or goose is getting more possible.

Let me know what they think! Same here on the rain! We actually have met a few little frogs. We didn’t dine with them, but we did check one out. He hopped out of the container we put him in while in the dining room…so…we got very close to dining with a frog, which is close to dining with a toad. Anyhoo…

How fun! I love the animation, too! My husband and I are constantly making up songs for our daughter for whatever we’re doing and while we often sing the same songs over time, I bet we’ll forget a lot of them when she grows older. Maybe I should record some of them for us to remember later on.

You definitely should! It’s a fun family activity if you and your husband are both musicians. You can even include your daughter in the recording! At the end of this one my daughter always says, “That’s me!” Thanks for visiting and watching the video!
